The top ten fishing tips for abundant fish life - "Actions speak louder than words"

1. Get rid of the ego

Fishing is not about being the champion angler but being part of the adventure,  live with, not conquering the oceans, rivers and streams. Being one with nature is being part of the cycle of life and not trying to exploit it for ones ego or personal gain.

2. Tag and release

If you do feel that your ego needs some stroking, tag that prize fish and release it. A live fish is always better than a dead one. But better still, just give thanks for the fight and let the fish go. After all, you have experienced a great struggle together.

3.Eat a fish

Take and eat a fish, its part of the cycle of life, and there is no shame. However, don’t be greedy, where possible, follow fish bag limits of your area. Of cause, you don’t have to take the full bag limit. Please don’t eat endanger fish species.

4.Don’t take too many fish from the same fishing spot

Please take only a few fish from the same reef and then move on. Each reef area is often home to schools of that species. It ensures the schools are not over fished in that area.

5. Freshwater fishing is a great option

The fishing in our fresh water impoundments are fantastic from Bass to Barra, these species are part of restocking programs. So our resource is really limited by our effort to re stock. The best part about fishing freshwater is that it takes the pressure off the salt water species.

6. Don’t take spawning fish

Give up the right to take that species to eat when they are spawning, let the fish spawn in peace if that possible as the species will reward you in the future. Look after the breeders

7. Live clean

Watch your pollution levels; from your house hold sink and drains and from your boat. Be careful not to release the following into the water ways: petrol, oils, paints, diesel, organic waste, pesticides, fertilizers and household chemical like bleach. These affect the water quality and oxygen levels in the water. These pollutants interrupt microscope life and can stop or slow the chain of life that produces the food source for fish.

8. Keep a fish spike

Make sure you have a fish spike in your boat, pulling fish up out of deep water can kill fish particularly ones you want or need to return. Spike the fish behind the up gill and pierce their lung. It allows the fish to live.

9. My brothers keeper

Take a proactive stand against those who abuse and disrespect our oceans, rivers and streams. Speak up, or clean after others, remove plastic from the water, pick up discard fishing line left on the rock and so on.

10. Protect endangered species

Refuse to buy or take fish species to eat that are in danger of becoming extinct. Let people know of the fish’s plight.
